Counted by grant date, so a renewal in a given year shows in that year.
Renewals Coming Due
66 licenses in the county expire within the next
six months. The FCC does not send reminders. You get a two year grace period to renew
after expiry, but you may not transmit during it, and once it passes the call sign goes
back in the pool.

Renew at the FCC CORES site. The FCC charges $35.
Getting Licensed
The entry level Technician exam is 35 questions drawn from a published pool of about
400, and a passing score is 26. The whole pool is public, which means you can study the
exact questions you will be asked.
Online exam sessions
Several VE teams run remote video-supervised sessions daily, so you can usually test
within an hour of deciding you are ready, rather than waiting for the next monthly
in-person session. WM7X runs sessions 8am to 10pm Eastern, seven days a week. The
session fee is the usual $15, plus the FCC's $35 application fee after you pass.

In person, locally
Penn Wireless
runs VE sessions the first Wednesday of each month at the Levittown Library. They are
the closest team to us and explicitly welcome new hams, so if you would rather sit in a
room with people than stare into a webcam, that is the one.
What to expect
35 questions, 26 to pass. Bring your FRN if you already have one from a GMRS license:
it is the same number and there is no need to register again. If you do not have one,
register at FCC CORES
before your session.
After you pass, the VE team files electronically and the FCC emails you a payment link.
Pay the $35 within 10 days or the application is dismissed and you sit the exam
again. The call sign normally appears in the FCC database a day or two later, at which
point you will find yourself in the New Licensees table above.
